Reach
Reach is the maximum horizontal distance, in millimetres, an industrial robot arm extends from base to wrist. With payload it sizes the work envelope.
Reach is the maximum horizontal distance, in millimetres, between a robot's base axis and the centre of its wrist when the arm is fully extended. Together with payload it is the headline spec that decides which applications a robot can serve.
Reach defines the outer boundary of the work envelope — the three-dimensional space the tool centre point can occupy. A larger reach lets one robot service multiple machines or a wider pallet, but usually comes with lower payload and a larger footprint.
When selecting a used or refurbished robot, map your part positions, fixtures, and machine doors against the reach before anything else. The Robot Portal lists reach for every robot so you can confirm the work envelope covers your cell layout.
