IP Rating
An IP rating (IEC 60529) classifies how well a robot is sealed against dust and water — e.g. IP67 — guiding suitability for harsh or washdown environments.
An IP (Ingress Protection) rating, defined by IEC 60529, is a two-digit code stating how well an enclosure resists solids and liquids. The first digit covers dust (0–6), the second covers water (0–9K). IP65, IP67, and IP69K are common robot ratings.
IP rating decides where a robot can work: a standard IP54 arm suits clean assembly, while foundry, food washdown, or wet machining need higher protection on the wrist or whole arm. Mismatched ratings lead to early failure from contamination.
When buying a used robot for a harsh or wet environment, confirm the actual IP rating of both arm and wrist — protective variants are specific models, not options you can add later.
