Gripper

A gripper is a robot end effector that grasps and holds parts, using mechanical fingers, vacuum, or magnetism. It is matched to part shape and weight.

A gripper is the most common end effector, used to pick up and hold workpieces. Mechanical grippers use two or more fingers driven pneumatically or electrically; vacuum grippers use suction cups for flat or sealed surfaces; magnetic grippers handle ferrous parts.

Grip force, stroke, and finger design are matched to the part's geometry, weight, and surface. Electric grippers add programmable force and position feedback, useful for delicate or variable parts.

When integrating a used robot, the gripper is almost always specified fresh for the application. Confirm the robot's payload covers the gripper plus the heaviest part and that the controller can drive the chosen gripper's I/O.
